Records Galore was started in its present location on E. Ponce in Clarkston, Georgia in January 1981. It’s the oldest, continuously operating business in the city. Founded by lifelong record collector Michael Bell, the store developed a reputation for high quality rare and vintage collectible lps and counted customers from around the world. Michael was a collector who specialized in the music of the 1950’s and 60’s, especially solo artists like John Gary, Julie London, Bing Crosby and of course, Elvis Presley. In addition to his passion for music, Michael was an avid sports fan and collected all sorts of cards and sports memorabilia. He loved sports history and enjoyed traveling to national card collectors conventions. His favorite player was Georgia Hall of Fame player Ty Cobb. Michael also loved classic movies and television westerns starring actors like Errol Flynn, Marilyn Monroe, Laurel & Hardy and John Wayne. He kept a small tv in the store that was often showing a western like “Have Gun, Will Travel,” if the Braves weren’t playing.
Before opening Records Galore Michael served with Company C of the 86th “Viking” Engineer Battalion (combat) of the 20th Engineer Brigade in Vietnam from July 1968 to July 1969 and with Company A of the 82nd Engineer Battalion in Bamberg, Germany. He also worked for the PET Dairy while he continued to collect records. Michael passed away from complications due to cancer on December 27,2013.
Records Galore is presently owned and operated by Ken Waldrop. Kenneth is a fellow record collector and was a friend and business partner of Michael Bell. Ken has continued Records Galore’s mission of trading rare and collectible records to a local and international clientele. Records Galore currently has over a century of recorded music on various formats. There’s a good chance we have what you’re looking for. Even if you don’t know what it is yet.
